Hello! My name is Jayme Crockett and I am a Licensed Midwife in Idaho. I grew up in beautiful Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and currently live in Boise, Idaho with my husband and 8 children. We love to spend time outside- hiking, biking, gardening and running around with our growing flock of chickens.
As a midwife, I feel it is important to build trust with families in pregnancy by offering trauma informed care and also encourage women to trust their intuition when making decisions. I love supporting families as they emotionally prepare for birth, by offering resources in the form of books, podcasts, websites and other birth professionals.
My journey to midwifery started when I had my first son at 19 years old. I was fascinated that my body was growing a baby, and so intrigued with how connected I felt to him. During my 3rd trimester I attended a labor and birth prep class taught by Marie, who was a 50-something year old (self-proclaimed) “birth activist”. I will forever be grateful to Marie because she taught me about the physiology of labor and birth, to surrender to the intensity of labor and most of all to trust my body and my baby to work together. After his birth, I sat on the hospital toilet, feeling more vulnerable than I had ever felt in my life. My nurse had a warm washcloth and started gently wiping down my legs. I will never forget the admiration on her face when she looked at me and said “Jayme, thank you for allowing me to be here and witness such a beautiful birth. I have never seen a mom surrender to labor like you did. You inspired me today.” Then she helped me put on my postpartum diaper and supported me as I took that glorious postpartum walk back to bed. Now, as the midwife, I fully understand the gratitude she expressed to me, and I am honored to be a part of each and every birth I am invited by families to attend.
Over the next several years I was given the opportunity to learn firsthand about birthing in different countries. I lived in Germany for 3 years and had 2 births in German hospitals. I also had 1 hospital birth in Texas. I lived in Doha, Qatar for 4 years, and had 1 hospital birth as well as 2 home births that were illegal in Qatar. During my preparation for those births I had to truly surrender and trust my intuition and my body because I did not trust the medical care that was available. I connected with a Canadian midwife living in Qatar that trusted birth so deeply, that she was willing to risk being arrested or banned from the country to attend my births. I will be forever grateful to her for creating a space for me to have such empowering births. My family moved back to the United States and a few years later my last son was peacefully born, in water, at home with midwives in Boise, Idaho.
I attended births as a Birth Photographer/Videographer & doula and I was grateful to connect with all different types of birth workers. I co-hosted a podcast called “Mindful Birth, Peaceful Earth” and also had the opportunity to stay on “The Farm” in Tennessee for a week, interviewing the midwives and helping shoot a documentary about The Farm history.
I graduated with a BSM from Midwives College of Utah. I am DONA doula trained, a Tummy Team Trained™ Birth Professional (pelvic floor therapy), I am certified with PTC to do Placenta
Encapsulation. I am a member of the Idaho Midwifery Council and also the Association of Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Health (APPPAH).
